[#Swarajya] Opposing T M Krishna, World-Renowned Carnatic Vocalists Ranjani, Gayatri Announce Withdrawal From Music Academy Conference

World-renowned Carnatic vocalists Ranjani and Gayatri have announced their withdrawal from the Music Academy’s conference in 2024, which will be presided over by T M Krishna. They will also not be presenting their concert on December 25. The sisters accused T M Krishna of causing “immense damage to the Carnatic music world” and “willfully and happily” stomping over the sentiments of the music community¹. They alleged that Krishna insulted respected icons like Tyagaraja and M S Subbulakshmi. They also criticized Krishna for glorifying E V Ramasamy (EVR), who they claim proposed a genocide of Brahmins and used vile profanity against women of the Brahmin community. They believe that participating in the conference would be a moral violation of their values.
