Singapore allocates Yishun Avenue 3 plot for new Kerala-style Hindu temple; first new build since 2006

Singapore has allocated a land parcel along Yishun Avenue 3 for the construction of the Sree Guruvayoorappan Ayyappan Temple (SGAT), the first new Hindu temple to be built in the country since 2006. Dedicated to the deities Guruvayoorappan and Ayyappan, the temple is designed in a traditional Kerala style featuring a distinctive gable for natural airflow rather than a typical towering gopuram. This project specifically addresses a long-standing desire within the Malayalee community and will serve as a significant local hub for pilgrims who typically travel to Kerala, India, for worship. Expected to begin construction in late 2026, the site will also include an annex for cultural and educational programs to foster interfaith collaboration and community cohesion.
