The Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Mukti Nyas (SKJMN), a petitioner in Mathura’s Krishna Janmasthan case, has approached the Allahabad High Court seeking permission to worship at the Krishna Koop (well) near the staircase at the Shahi Idgah mosque in Mathura on Holi. The plea follows the Varanasi district court’s recent orders allowing worship at Shringar Gauri in Gyanvapi Masjid.
In the plea, SKJMN president and advocate Mahendra Pratap Singh said the well holds significance as it was “built by Lord Krishna’s descendant Vajranabha”. He added that there is historical evidence to prove that elaborate festivities used to take place at the site around Holi. The hearing of the matter has been scheduled on March 13.
Previously, the mosque committee had opposed Hindu worship at Krishna Koop. The high court had consolidated 15 cases concerning the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi–Shahi Idgah Masjid dispute in May 2023. The garden in Shri Krishna Janmasthan complex, popularly known as Keshav Vatika, was reopened for visitors following the intervention of CM Yogi Adityanath.
