[ The Times of India ] Ayodhya’s Ram Temple roof leaks after season’s first rain

Just 5 months after the inauguration of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, head priest Acharya Satyendra Das on Monday said the temple's roof has started leaking after the city witnessed heavy rainfall, adding that there is no proper way to drain it. "It is very surprising. So many engineers are here and the Pran Pratishtha was held on January 22, but water is leaking from the roof. Nobody would've thought this," Das said.

The Ram Mandir in Ayodhya experienced water leakage from the roof of the sanctum sanctorum during the season’s first pre-monsoon shower, five months after its inauguration. The chief priest, Acharya Satyendra Das, expressed concern as water was dripping in front of the Ram Lalla idol and stated that there is no arrangement to drain water out of the temple.

Nripendra Mishra, the chairman of the temple construction committee, explained that the seepage occurred because the temple is still under construction and its mandaps are yet to be closed. He mentioned that the rainwater dropping from the first floor is expected as the Guru Mandap is exposed to the skies and the completion of the shikhar will cover this opening. He also noted that there is no drainage in the sanctum sanctorum because all the mandaps have a measured slope for clearance of water and the water in the garbha griha is manually absorbed.

Mishra ruled out any construction flaw in the temple, stating that there is no design or construction issue. He explained that the mandaps which are open may get rainwater drops, but the decision was to keep it open as per Nagar architectural norms. He assured that necessary instructions for repair and waterproofing of the roofs have been given to the vendors.
