The Children’s Museum Houston, in partnership with Hindus of Greater Houston (HGH), celebrated Holi, the festival of colors, with a series of events at the museum and the Fort Bend Children’s Discovery Center (FBCDC) in Sugar Land¹. The celebrations took place on March 23rd and 24th.
The events were designed to be age-appropriate for children aged 5 to 14. An outdoor area was set up where children could play with colored Gulaal while Bollywood Holi songs played in the background. Inside the museum, HGH distributed pamphlets explaining the significance of Holi, its traditions, and its influence on popular culture, music, and art.
The event was well-received, with positive feedback from both parents and children¹. Stephanie Weisinger, the Gallery Programs Coordinator of CMH, expressed her delight at the success of the event and hinted at the possibility of expanding it to accommodate more children next year.
This is part of HGH’s ongoing efforts to make Hindu holidays more accessible to the broader community. They had previously partnered with CMH and FBCDC for a Diwali celebration. HGH is also advising CMH on an upcoming interfaith exhibit, which aims to foster unity and understanding among all faith communities in Houston.
