A 50-foot statue of Lord Shiva, the largest of its kind in South America, was inaugurated at the Badrinath Ashram in Guyana on February 13, 2025. The statue was handcrafted in India and assembled by the founders of Triveni Mandir in Guyana. The inauguration ceremony, attended by several officials including President Dr. Irfaan Ali and Prime Minister Mark Phillips, took place just in time for Maha Shivratri. President Ali emphasized the importance of such investments in reinforcing community, faith, and spirituality. Hindus make up around 31% of Guyana’s population, the highest percentage in the Western Hemisphere.
