The article titled “Hindu Group Approaches Court Against Taj Mahal Marking Shah Jahan Death” from NDTV reports that the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha, a right-wing organization, has filed a petition in an Agra court. The petition seeks a prohibitory injunction against the observation of the ‘Urs’ at the Taj Mahal. The ‘Urs’ is a three-day event observed to commemorate the death of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, who commissioned the construction of the Taj Mahal.

The petitioner has also challenged the free entry for ‘Urs’ inside the Taj Mahal. The court accepted the petition and set March 4 as the date of hearing. The Hindu outfit filed the petition based on an RTI response from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which stated that no permission was granted for the commemoration of the ‘Urs’.

The ‘Urs’ event, which includes rituals such as ‘chadar posh’, ‘sandal’, ‘gusul’, and ‘kul’, is scheduled to take place from February 6 to February 8. On the final day of the ‘Urs’, a ‘chadar’ (bedsheet), measuring 1,880 metres or more, is offered.
