On August 24, 2025, Hindu organizations in Fiji, including the World Hindu Federation (Pacific) and Vishwa Hindu Parishad Fiji, appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene with Fiji’s leadership regarding increasing attacks on the Indo-Fijian Hindu community. Their letter raised concern over a series of temple desecrations, thefts of sacred idols, and break-ins at Hindu homes, which have created widespread fear and insecurity. One of the most shocking incidents was the vandalism of the century-old Samabula Shiv Mandir in Suva in July, where sacred idols were destroyed and religious items stolen. The accused in that case has been arrested and placed under psychiatric evaluation. Community leaders stressed that such repeated incidents suggest a growing intolerance and questioned whether Fiji’s political environment has emboldened the perpetrators. They urged Prime Minister Modi to ensure that Fiji’s government provides clear assurances and concrete steps for the safety and protection of Hindus..
