The first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, the BAPS Hindu Mandir, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 14, 2024. This was PM Modi’s seventh visit to the UAE. The temple complex includes a visitors’ center, prayer halls, exhibitions, learning areas, sports area for children and youth, thematic gardens, water features, a food court, book and gift shop, and other facilities.

The temple is dedicated to many deities such as Lord Swaminarayan, Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, Lord Krishna, and Lord Ayyappan. The temple is crafted entirely from stone and is spread across 27 acres. It has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 700 crores.

The temple is located in Abu Mureikhah, Al Rahba area on the Abu Dhabi-Sweihan-Al Ain Road, close to the Abu Dhabi-Dubai highway. The temple was envisioned by Pramukh Swami Maharaj, the spiritual leader of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha during his visit to UAE in 1999. The UAE government allotted land for a Hindu temple in 2015.

The temple is a testament to the growing ties between India and the United Arab Emirates.
