Thiruparankundram Deepam row: Hindu devotees slam Tamil Nadu govt for ‘undisguised scorn and contempt’ for Hindu faith, forcing surrender of religious rights

Hindu devotees told the Madras HC that the Tamil Nadu government and the HR&CE Department were displaying open bias and “undisguised scorn” towards Hindu faith by opposing the lighting of the Karthigai Deepam atop Thiruparakundram Hill. Defending Justice GR Swaminathan’s order allowing the ritual, the devotees argued that the State was seeking “coexistence” only by forcing Hindus to repeatedly surrender their legitimate religious rights.
