[OpIndia] Hindus for Human Rights, which endorsed ‘Dismantling Global Hindutva’ conference, now organises anti-Hindu event with George Soros-funded outfit

The US-based organization, Hindus for Human Rights (HfHR), is hosting an event titled ‘Zionism and Hindu Supremacy: partners against Pluralism’ at the University of California (Berkeley). The event, which will also be broadcast via Zoom, aims to discuss the intersection of Zionism and Hindu Supremacy and their roles in shaping world politics and human rights. One of the speakers at the event is Dana Bergen, a member of the ‘Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP)’, an organization known for its protests and boycott campaigns against Israel.

The text also mentions that billionaire George Soros has donated to the JVP and has been involved in efforts to criticize the Indian government. Soros has funded international institutions like Freedom House and V-Dem Institute, and in 2020, he committed $1 billion to start a global university to fight nationalism and climate change.

HfHR, formed in 2019 by the Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) and the Organization for Minorities of India (OFMI), has been involved in various controversies. It was part of the Alliance for Justice and Accountability, which led demonstrations against PM Modi’s visit to Houston in 2019. Sunita Vishwanath, the co-founder of HfHR, has raised concerns about the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in India. She is also the co-founder of ‘Women for Afghan Women’, funded by Soros’ Open Society Foundations. In 2021, HfHR endorsed the ‘Dismantling Global Hindutva’ conference and created a toolkit to criticize PM Modi during his US visit in 2023. In October of the same year, HfHR’s account on X (formerly Twitter) was withheld in India due to a legal demand.
