The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal have announced their plan to conduct a religious event in Nuh, Haryana on July 22. This announcement comes a year after an attack on a similar Hindu religious procession led to communal violence in Nuh and other parts of Haryana¹. The event, named the Brij Mandal Jal Abhishek Yatra, was initiated as an annual affair by VHP in 2020 and aims to “revive holy Hindu sites” in Nuh.

The procession begins with a ceremonial “jal abhishek” (pouring of sacred water) at the Nalhar Mahadev temple. This ancient temple, surrounded by the Aravallis near Nuh city, is believed to date back to the time of the Pandavas, and houses the Nalhar Pandava Reservoir.

However, the Nuh administration and police stated that they have no knowledge about any such procession which is going to be on July 22. They added that no one had sought permission to conduct the event.

VHP Haryana’s social media head, Anurag Kulshrestha, said that this year’s yatra is being held in coordination with holy men from 22 districts of the state. He informed that the procession would be completely religious and a non-political event. The event is expected to draw at least 15,000 people.
