Hindu unity attempts branded as communal: Sivagiri Mutt chief

Sivagiri Mutt president Swami Satchidananda, while speaking at the valedictory session of the 114th Hindu Matha Parishad at Cherukolpuzha, expressed concern that contemporary efforts toward Hindu unity are often unfairly labeled as communal. He highlighted a perceived double standard where other religious groups are free to organize, yet Hindus face criticism when gathering to address their specific concerns. Reaffirming the teachings of Sree Narayana Guru, the Swami argued that the Guru’s message of becoming strong through organization remains deeply relevant and emphasized that none of the Guru’s works contradict the principles of Sanatana Dharma. The event also featured diverse perspectives, with Hindu Matha Mahamandalam vice-president Adv K Haridas warning of attempts to weaken Hindu culture, while former Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala cautioned that the inclusive nature of Bharatiya Dharma could be undermined if Sanatana Dharma is exploited for political purposes. Additionally, former Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan spoke on the community’s lack of agency regarding the management of religious offerings, collectively framing the meet as a vital “pilgrimage of knowledge” for the preservation of cultural and spiritual identity.
