Hindu Americans condemn US comedian’s ‘anti‑Hindu’ speech in Indian attire in Texas: ‘Circus of hatred’

A report by The Times of India details the widespread condemnation from the Hindu American community following a controversial appearance by comedian Alex Stein at a Plano City Council meeting in Texas. Dressed in traditional Indian attire, including a yellow kurta, Stein delivered a speech that mocked Hindu religious beliefs and introduced himself mockingly as being from the “holy land of India,” leading several Indian-American attendees to stage a walkout in protest. Advocacy groups, including the Hindu American Foundation, labeled the performance a “circus of hatred” and criticized local officials for allowing the platforming of anti-Hindu rhetoric under the guise of public comment. The incident has heightened concerns regarding the rise of Hinduphobia in the United States, with community leaders demanding greater accountability from public institutions to ensure that religious minorities are protected from targeted harassment and the trivialization of their faith.
