NASA astronaut Sunita Williams extended her heartfelt Diwali wishes from the International Space Station (ISS). In her video message, she reflected on her father’s efforts to preserve their cultural heritage, teaching her and her family about Diwali and other Indian festivals. Williams emphasized the significance of Diwali as a festival of hope and renewal, noting that it is a time when goodness prevails. She expressed gratitude to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for their participation in the White House Diwali celebrations, acknowledging their recognition of the contributions of the Indian community. Williams has been on the ISS since June 5, 2024, as part of a mission that was initially planned as a week-long test flight but was extended due to safety concerns. She, along with fellow astronaut Butch Wilmore, is expected to return to Earth in February 2025. Williams’ message serves as a reminder of the importance of cultural traditions and community spirit, transcending the boundaries of space and time.
