At Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University in Dinajpur city, Bangladesh. The university, which is home to 25% of students of the Hindu faith, has been denying space for a Hindu temple for 11 years. Despite the university administration’s decision in 2013 to construct a temple, no progress has been made.
Hindu students have been demanding a designated land for the construction of the temple for the past 11 years. On 4th December 2022, they submitted a written draft to the administration to fulfill its commitment to construct a Hindu temple. The university had assured that the construction would begin in January 2023, but they backtracked on their assurance.
Despite several rounds of demonstrations and assurances from the university, the promise to allocate land for the temple within the 85-acre campus has not been fulfilled. The Hindu students have approached the Vice Chancellor, Registrar of the university, and even sent a Deputation to the Office of SP, DC, and the Prime Minister’s Office.
On 15th February, the foundation stone of a temporary Hindu temple, located within the campus, came under attack from university authorities. The university has three mosques on the campus but not a single Hindu temple.
