A former high school student in Chicago has won a partial victory in a federal court in Illinois. The court agreed to certify a class of all students who took part in the Chicago Public Schools’ “Quiet Time program” from 2015 to 2019. The student claimed that the program, which was presented as secular, secretly included Hindu religious elements. These included the chanting of Sanskrit mantras that honored Hindu deities, contrary to what the students were told that they were “meaningless”.
