The Maha Kumbh festival in Prayagraj, India, is a vibrant display of traditional saris, the colorful fabric worn by women. Millions of Hindus gather at the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers to seek absolution from their sins by taking holy dips. The festival, held every 12 years, sees women sun-drying their saris on bamboo rods and the sandy riverbanks after bathing. This year’s festival began on January 13 and will end on February 26, with over 400 million attendees expected. The sari, a symbol of Hindu culture, is also significant in other South Asian countries.
