The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) is launching a nationwide campaign aimed at freeing Hindu temples from state government control. The campaign will kick off with a public awareness event in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, on January 5, 2025. The VHP has prepared a draft law for the administration and management of Hindu temples by community members, which has been shared with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
The draft law proposes the establishment of **dharmic councils** at state levels, comprising respected religious leaders, retired judges, and experts in Hindu scriptures and rituals. These councils would oversee the election of district-level councils, which would appoint trustees to manage local temples. The VHP emphasizes that only practicing Hindus would be eligible to serve on these administrative bodies, and politicians or individuals affiliated with political parties would be excluded.
The campaign aims to ensure that temple income is used solely for the propagation of Hindu dharma and community service, rather than government projects.
