Peel Regional Police in Canada arrested 57-year-old Ranendra Lal Banerjee for inciting hatred during protests at Brampton’s Hindu Sabha Mandir on November 4, 2024. The protests were sparked by disruptions at an Indian consular camp held at the temple. Banerjee was charged under section 319(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada. Arrest warrants were also issued for two others, Armaan Gahlot and Arpit, for threats and conspiracy charges. The Peel police formed a Strategic Investigative Team to address criminal behavior during the protests. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack, calling it a cowardly attempt to intimidate Indian diplomats.
