The Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit has launched two online courses to popularize Sanskrit. The first course is a basic Sanskrit course in Malayalam, aimed at introducing and cultivating an appreciation for the Sanskrit language among the general public. It introduces simple phrases, hymns, and stories, and expects learners to compose short sentences and enjoy poetry. Learners will also familiarize themselves with various stories, ‘Subhashitas’, and literary works including ‘Sriramodantam’ and the Bhagavad Gita in Sanskrit literature. The course duration is 14 weeks, with Malayalam and Sanskrit being the medium of instruction.

The second course is a short-term programme for faculty of Ayurveda at the Kerala University of Health Sciences. The course aims to introduce the interpretative possibilities of various elements like Nipatam, Upasargam, and Prakaranam. The goal is for learners to find a methodology to effectively read and understand any texts in Ayurveda. The duration of this course is six months.

Both courses have no age limit and were launched by Prof. Jagat Bhushan Nadda, Director of the Consortium for Educational Communication, on May 15 at the main campus in Kalady. These courses are part of the university’s efforts to popularize Sanskrit among the public.
