The keys to Oxfordshire’s first Hindu temple, located at Court Place Farm in Marston, have been handed over during Holi celebrations. The Oxford Hindu Temple and Community Centre Project (OHTCCP) received the keys from Oxford City Council leader Susan Brown.
Dr. Gian Gopal, the founding chairman of OHTCCP, described this as the “beginning of the end of chapter one”, which will conclude when the first spiritual prayers are conducted in the building. The next chapter involves sharing the temple with the community over the next 20 years.
The temple site was a long-awaited achievement for the Hindu community in Oxfordshire, which numbers over 7,000. The plans involve transforming the changing rooms at the derelict sports pavilion into a Hindu temple, with two halls created in the building – one for worship and the other for community gatherings.
